Located in Downtown Wausau, the Center
for the Visual Arts showcases the inspirations of local and regional artists through exhibits, classes and its gift shop.  The CVA anchors one corner of ArtsBlock, an exciting $13 million renovation that joined two buildings and the Grand Theater into one spectacular venue for the visual and performing arts.

The new gallery space at the CVA features white-washed brick walls and hardwood floors.  It's the perfect backdrop for displaying everything from sculpture to mixed media prints.  The CVA's signature exhibit, "Midwest Winter," opens every year in January.  Nationally acclaimed artists submit their interpretation of this season, often from unconventional angles.  Six of the seven shows on the exhibit schedule are juried, meaning the artists are chosen for their mastery of their media or
their unique perspective.

If you're moved by what you see in the gallery, then you'll appreciate the additional works of art available in the Gift Shop.  The combined works of over 200 artists are available for purchase.  You'll find one-of-a-kind gifts of hand-blown glass, etchings, photography and prints.  There's also wearable art like hand-woven scarves and jewelry.  Looking for something special?  There's a story behind every item in the Gift Shop.

If you're in the mood to get more "hands-on," then the CVA is the place to start painting, throwing pottery or creating kinetic art.  New sets of classes taught by art educators, begin each spring, summer, and fall.   Students range from pre-schoolers to experienced adults.  Special events throughout the year include gallery tours by exhibiting artists who offer insight into their work.
