Downhill Skiing
Granite Peak Ski Area at Rib Mountain State Park

WAUSAU/CENTRAL WISCONSIN:
Mid-America's Great Ski Town
With the recent improvements at Granite Peak, it's getting harder to make a distinction between skiing out West and skiing close to home. Granite Peak has the terrain variety, the long runs, and the reliable snow that you'd expect to find only after spending a few hours in an airplane. Luckily, it's close to home, and easy to reach with a short drive on well-maintained interstate highways ... no airport hassles, no rental car, no long travel day... just great skiing.

More Ski Time, Less Drive Time
Whether you live in Wisconsin, Chicago, or the Twin Cities, Granite Peak is only a few hours drive ... or less. Leave early and arrive in time for a full day of skiing. Stay for a few days and enjoy the hospitality of the Wausau Area at a fraction of the cost of 'Going out West.'

More Terrain, More Variety, More Lifts
A mountain rising 700 feet, collecting more than its share of natural snow, and facing north to foster early snowfalls and excellent late season snow. Nature's bounty is augmented by 500 snowguns, assuring plentiful snow from November through April.

A total of 75 runs are spread over the face of this 700 foot mountain. There are acres of wide-open beginner runs. Mile-long intermediate cruising runs. Two mogul runs, an amazing half-pipe and dozens of hits, jumps, rails and other terrain features. Super-steep expert chutes and tree skiing glades. Terrain for all abilities. You can ski for days and still be discovering new runs!

This incredible and diverse terrain is served by the most modern lift system in the Midwest including six chairlifts and the Midwest's longest high speed chairlift.

Ski Longer
With its Wisconsin Northwood's location, Granite Peak receives more than its share of natural snow. However, in order to ensure superb early season skiing as well as plentiful snow for skiing into April, more than 500 advanced technology snowguns supplement nature's bounty of snow. This means that, year after year, Granite Peak will best and most reliable snow in the region, from mid November through early April.

To Granite Peak's crack grooming crew, manicuring the mountain is almost a religion. With eight snowcats deployed virtually around the clock, all of our runs (other than our tree skiing glades) are groomed and buffed twice daily into perfect corduroy. On busy days, we do noon-grooms of the more popular routes. And the half-pipe, moguls and terrain park have their own staff to ensure that they remain in top condition at all times.
